Emotion-Focused Therapy - Level 2


The Institute of Emotion-Focused Therapy Ireland & The Division of Counselling Psychology, PSI jointly present Emotion-Focused Therapy - Level 2. A Four Day Training Workshop from January 14th - 17th, 2016, presented by Ladislav Timulak, PhD with special guest Robert Elliott, PhD (1 full day)

Participants must have completed EFT Level 1 training

This workshop provides participants with more in-depth skill training beyond the introductory Level One workshop and enables discussion of challenges that have emerged in using EFT in each participants's own clinical practice. Participants receive in depth skill training through a combination of brief lectures, video demonstrations, live modelling, case discussions and extensive supervised roleplaying practice. Supervised role-playing practice will involve extensive supervised experiential practice in which participants learn by working as both a client and a therapist in small groups.

Workshop Outline:

Days 1-3: In the first three days, the course will cover advanced emotion assessment; productive and unproductive arousal; case formulation; the process & Variants Evocation of emotion; advanced work with experiential tasks such as two chair and empty dialogues, work with worry and interruptive processes; imaginal restructuring; application of EFT to specific populations & problems; and case formulation for specific disorders.

Day 4 (Robert Elliott): Day four will be presented by Robert Elliott and will cover the application of EFT to the treatment of Social Anxiety.

Robert Elliott, Ph.D., received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and taught clinical psychology at the University of Toledo (Ohio) for nearly 30 years; there, in collaboration with Leslie Greenberg and Laura Rice, he developed Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). He is Professor of Counselling in the Counselling Unit at the University of Strathclyde, where he directs its research clinic and teaches counselling research and EFT. He is currently researching the application of EFT to the treatment of social anxiety. He is a past president of the Society for Psychotherapy Research. In 2009 he received the Distinguished Research Career Award of the Society for Psychotherapy Researchers, and the Carl Rogers Award from the Division of Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association.

Ladislav Timulak, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin, where he is also Course Director of the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. He trained in emotion-focused therapy with the developers of EFT, Leslie Greenberg and Robert Elliott. His main research interest is in the area of psychotherapy research, in particular emotion focused therapy; and he is lead investigator in an ongoing study investigating the application of EFT to the treatment of Generalised Anxiety Disorder. He is the author of a number of books, including the recently published 'Transforming Emotional Pain in Psychotherapy: An Emotion-Focused Approach'.

This workshop is a small group training experience and enrollment is strictly limited. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. No refund will be given without one week’s notice of cancellation.
