Join Dr. Mirisse Foroughe, Clinical Psychologist based in Toronto, Canada, for this new approach to youth and family therapy: Emotion Focused Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y).
This training is for therapists relatively new to EFT as well as those with EFT experience with adults or couples, looking to gain experience in working with youth, parent-child dyads, co-parent dyads, and families within an emotion focused modality.
EFT-Y directs youth to their emotions while recognizing how impactful primary caregivers are in a child’s emotional development and mental health. Many youth become more comfortable with expressing their emotions directly to their caregivers and allowing parents and caregivers to become involved in the therapeutic process. EFT-Y prioritizes a multi-perspective formulation, going beyond the individual to consider and possibly access key systems and identities within the client’s life: family, school, community, culture, religion, and more.
Who can attend?
EFT-Y integrates EFT’s emotion transformation process while also focusing more explicitly on nonverbal communication between therapist and client, due to potential challenges with expressive language that can result from developmental or intrafamilial trauma, impaired or developing cognitive functioning, and neurodivergence in younger clients. You will practice identifying key moments in therapy, facilitating emotion transformation through evocative and empathic responses, and working with dyads, triads, and families from a systems perspective.
